Session Brief

There have been many innovations in the area of building materials and components and being implemented successfully over the years using local materials, skill, know-how and practices in our country. With fast pace of urbanisation, it is of paramount importance that the future construction in the country is sustainable, affordable and green suiting to different geo- climatic regions of the country and also in line with climate change mitigation strategies being practiced world over.

With the clarion call given by Hon’ble Prime Minister on AtmaNirbhar Bharat and Vocal for Local, it is opportune time to take stock of these innovations, create enabling eco-system, build entrepreneurship and mainstream them in the construction sector specially for low and mid-rise construction. In order to mainstream innovations in the construction sector, the organisations under MoHUA i.e., BMTPC and CPWD are working towards certification of such innovations and inclusion in SORs. BIS is also roped in along with other line departments for wider applicability of the new materials and technologies. The session will stock of these initiatives along with what is required to be done for wider replication of such technologies in the sector.
